Saturday morning, I had the chance to visit the Apple Store to see their newest creation – the iPad. Thirty people were on line to buy the thing; but I was just showing face for a test drive. The iPad weighs 1.5 pounds, and is a really sharp-looking gadget. The display is gorgeous and the raw functionality is top-notch. I was not a big fan of it when it was first announced; but after actually demoing one, I’m really digging it. Also, I’ve got some friends who are really happy with their purchases. It offers a lot to the end user.

Does it replace a laptop/netbook? No. Is it an iPod Touch plus an e-reader? Oh, yeah. Will I buy one? …Maybe.

While Apple has done a particularly great job on the iPad, it’s still got a few things to work through before I’m in love. There are currently no discounts being offered for this device, and with their pricing range of $500.00 – $829.00 – it’s pretty expensive. Also, I know it’s been said, but where’s the Flash compatibility? It has been years now since Apple has brought their game face to the mobile market – it’s time to step up and make this happen. Still, the apps made for the iPad are great. I tested the MLB TV app, TweetDeck, Netflix, and iLineup on the iPad and I’m happy with the results. Still, iPod Touch/iPhone apps will run in their original resolutions unless the developer gets around to making an iPad version.
