What’s your take on the superhero movie reboots?

It seems that two of the most popular superheroes are getting something of a fresh start in their next cinematic outings. Both Spider-Man and Superman are officially getting new movies. However, neither movie will be directly related to their previous installments.
It has been recently announced that Spider-Man’s next movie will be a reboot, bringing Peter Parker back to his high school days – a retelling of his origin story. This isn’t exactly surprising given the scorn that Spider-Man 3 received. Many people (yours truly included) felt that the storyline was over-saturated. Comparing to the feel of Spider-Man 1 and 2, Spider-Man 3’s villains didn’t hold the same ’super villain-ey’ intrigue. The Green Goblin and Doc Ock just felt more threatening on their own. Also, I don’t recall the black suit making Peter Parker prance through the streets like a Backstreet Boy in the comics.
The new Superman movie is going to be made with Chris Nolan (insert schoolgirl squealing here) overlooking the process. It also will not be an origin story; we’re getting a straight up Superman flick, featuring Brainiac and Lex Luthor as our public enemies. Superman Returns was something of an epilogue to Christoper Reeve’s interpretation of the DC icon. The casting was based more around the looks of today’s actors to be similar to those who had parts in the previous Superman movies. That being said, I think Kevin Spacey did a great job as Lex Luthor. Actors aside, this sequel was also part origin story. It’s subtle, but it’s there; the flashback Clark has while hanging out at his home in Smallville is your clearest evidence.
Is it a huge cop-out that these stories are getting reboots so soon? Did the old storylines really deserve to get ditched on the curb?

Not sure how I feel about this. Some good reboot possibilities and some bad.
Batman reboot=The best thing to happen to Batman in a long time.
Spiderman=I’ll welcome a reboot cause I dig Pete, but was 3 THAT bad that it deserved a series reboot so soon? I’m just afraid we’ll get another meh Spider-Man movie. Hope not.
Superman=I’m all for it. The last one was so so SO boring. 7 hours I’ll never get back. It probably wasn’t that long but it fucking felt like it.
I remember reading rumors of a Fantastic Four reboot. I haven’t seen them, but just based on trailers, it looks like a reboot wouldn’t hurt.
I also remember reading Todd McFarlane being interested in a Spawn reboot. He wanted Leo Dicaprio to be the lead, not as Spawn, but as a bad ass detective. While Dicaprio will never accept that role, I’m totes down for a new Spawn movie.

I agree wholeheartedly with Michaelangelo about the Batman reboot. It’s a good indication that it can be done and done right with effort.
As for Spiderman I’m not sure why a reboot is even needed. Spidey always had a huge cast of villians and situations that they could just extend the storyline further. ( For example The Lizard which many were hoping for.) Though like the Batman example if the reboot comes closer to the comic series I’m in for it. Though Doc Ock was pretty damn good in Spiderman 2.
Superman was terrible. Dude was seriously stalker status that whole flick. I don’t think a good Superman movie can really be done honestly.

Batman reboot = good call
Spiderman 1 and 2 were good movies…I haven’t gotten around to seeing 3 yet. I will eventually but I heard they tried to pack way too many villains into that movie and honestly how can you do the dark suit story and not have the Secret Wars to explain the suit? A Secret Wars movie would be the absolute best!
Superman was ruined by Christopher Reeves…seriously ever since that accident, Superman has become more of a joke than anything else
Flam -> DiCaprio might actually accept that role he has done some messed up characters -> check out “basketball diaries” I think that might be one of his best roles

Also, the destroyed the HULK…the last two movies sucked. They should go back to the original I want to see Lou Ferrigno painted green!

Where’s Flam? I don’t see him here.
I really, really liked The Incredible Hulk. Ed Norton was a good Bruce Banner. It’s just a damn shame it didn’t make as much money as the first one because it was so much better. Ang Lee’s Hulk was fucking awful. 10 dollars completely wasted on that.

I think it’s good that Spider-man is getting rebooted. Though Spiderman 1 and 2 were good I don’t think those movies represented the comic very well. I’d like to see a more accurate retelling.
As for Superman I don’t really care. I’m not really much of a fan.

The Batman reboots were the bomb digs! LOL! It is exactly how 21st century Batman needs to be – dark and evil and things blowing up and crazy killings! Excellent and awesome!
Spiderman reboot — I cringe at the thought. 3 wasn’t that bad that they need to start at square one. Yes, the villains were pretty lame, but MJ almost finally died and that was great b/c I was sick of her crying.
Superman reboot – No comment. OK – yes comment. Superman is not GLEE and it is not HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL. They need to not make the cast look like some teen film but in adulthood – that would just be rediculous. Next thing you know Kristen Stewart will be playing Lois Lane and they will bring in Kumar to play Superman. It will get stupid.
