Arrested Development…in development?

For months now most of us here at nerdpundit have been nipping at the bit to hear more news about the (possible) upcoming Arrested Development movie! More news has been unearthed this week! Creator, Mike Hurwitz, has announced that they “have a deal with Fox Searchlight” in the works! This was declared on stage at the Television Critics Association press tour on January 14th, while sitting beside two of the shows’ main stars Jason Bateman and Will Arnett.
Apparently, the biggest hold up isn’t just the fact that they don’t have a script or plot yet. But rather, that Michael Cera has not signed on to the film yet! He seems to be the only actor who has not signed on in fear of “typecasting”. Now, I think Michael Cera is brilliant for a young comedian. His timing and his presence is always awkward and his comedy comes off as natural and subtle. His work on the hit webisodes “Clark and Michael” is phenomenal, and I can’t imagine anyone else playing the cousin-lovin George Michael Bluth. But I think he has a style and he will always be cast in roles for nerdy, quiet, subtle characters with a simple charm. Why is he holding off on the movie? Rumors around the internet say that it might be a monetary issue and he thinks it’s not enough money for him after starring in Juno (which in my opinion was decent, but nothing to watch over and over).
It’s a shame to think that Cera’s ego has gotten to him. He should do the film simply because the fans want it so badly. Damnit Cera get off your golden plated couch and sign on already! The fans demand it!!!!

GREAT photo to use. “I got kids all over townnn!”
