The latest batch of WiiWare releases included Pong Toss, a controversial game developed for the system that resembles a certain staple at frat parties (or and frickin’ party I ever go to, geez I’m sick of it), Beer Pong.

what a crappy game.
Well I dropped the 800 Wii Points needed to download it, and after about 2 minutes (it’s a quick one) I was playing.

Step Brothers is a step in .. a direction…

I have always loved Will Ferrell for his arrogant rants and his obscene antics, and I have been a loyal follower of his films. After last year’s Semi-Pro I was a little disappointed… to me, that movie tanked. So going into Step Brothers I was a little nervous. Had Will lost his knack for gut busting comedy, was his shtick getting old? …. The answer is… kinda!…
Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly really know how to play off each other’s energies and their chemistry is what made the movie work for me. If this film was strictly Will or strictly John C. I definitely wouldn’t have liked or appreciated it as much. This is Adam McKay, Ferrell and Reilly’s second venture on celluloid; the first one being the highly enjoyable Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. That type of pedigree warrants a very successfully funny film. Keep reading > >
Aliens…. exist!.. or publicity stunt?

So yea.. apparently this NASA astronaut claims that aliens do exist and that he has been told detailed information on these ETs.. Also, our government has been covering it up for over 6 decades.. I think it’s safe to say that we are not alone…. there are so many planets and star systems out there that we are unaware of.. therefore I can’t imagine aliens DON’T exist!.. maybe this astronaut was paid off by the producers of the recently released X-Files movie to start some controversy.. or maybe… after all these years he’s decided to upchuck the truth! … Click the link and send in your thoughts!
The Academy is… making an awesome CD!

I think I have mentioned before that I am a complete geek for pop-punk.. since the arrival of Blink-182, I’ve been a victim of poppy melodies with heavy attention to choruses. So yea… That being said, I would consider myself a pretty average “Academy Is..” fan. I mean, I thoroughly enjoyed 2005’s Almost Here, but was pretty disappointed with 2007’s Santi. It felt as if the band tried to be something they weren’t with their sophomore effort .. plus Beckett’s vocals were way toooo swoony on that album.
Well kids, The Academy Is.. have re-entered the studio this past year and I have been hearing nit bits of their new tracks and am blown away.. not only because of the poppy-ness and shear brilliance of the melodies they’ve created.. but for the increased emphasis on production! They definitely delved into some deeper waters and definitely grew from the last CD.. .. well check for yourselves! Here are 3 tracks from their upcoming August 2008 CD: Fast Times At Barrington High

iPod Finally Gets a Decent Game… sort of

This game is boring
Okay, You probably have heard about Square-Enix’s new Final Fantasy Tactics-esque game Song Summoner. I actually took the time to play it with the explicit intent on reviewing it for our loyal readers.
Here’s a brief plot summary:
You are Ziggy, an average guy who chills with his younger brother Zero. Immediately, Zero gets kidnapped by evil robo-gestapo types. Then some eccentric hippie old guy takes some sort of cube medallion from you and kills off a bunch of the robots. This dude becomes your mentor. You then train to become a composer (someone who calls songs to do their fighting for them). This is a big deal because the robo-nazi empire (who have at this point taken over the ENTIRE WORLD) have been systematically kidnapping all of the composers in the world because music is the only thing that kills them. You spend most of the game engaging in Tactics like battles against 4 different enemies and once in a while a boss character.
to the game play…
Well you use the click wheel to select crap from menus. that’s really it.
The novel idea about the game is the fact that you create warriors from the songs on your iPod. Some warriors are good some are bad. You get to choose which ones you keep. Your warriors become stronger in 2 ways. The first way is by training them in “rehearsal rooms” which is basically a danger room setting for your dudes. The more crystals you get the quicker your dudes level up. The second way is to actually listen to the songs that make up your characters. This gives you bonus points at game-load and levels them up. (Enter cheaters: make an iTunes playlist with your warriors, repeat it over night.)
Thematically, the game touches upon lots of ideas. Freedom of expression, buying music, music keeping you safe, music as an escape, buying music, and purchasing music from the iTunes store.
When I first started the game I was completely blown away by the graphics (and still am) I love the ability to have good looking games on the go. The game is fun, but gets old VERY quickly. After the second day, I wouldn’t even play it on the bowl. This seems to be the problem with most downloadable games for mobile devices. They kill time when you want them too, but soon enough you just get bored.
I completed about 2/5 of the game in about 4 hours. This time included about an hour of leveling up in the rehearsal room.
Long story short, it’s the best game out for the ipod, but that isn’t saying much.
The Dark Knight = Perfection

“Do I look like I have a plan? I don’t have a plan. The mob has plans, the cops have plans. You know what I am? I’m a dog chasing cars. I wouldn’t know what to do if I caught one. I just do things. I’m not a schemer. ”
There is no other way to critique this film than to say that it is the BEST film of the year and the greatest comic book film ever put on celluloid! Phenomenal on all accounts.. the script, the acting, the storyline, the directing, the cinematography…. just perfection. This is what movie making is all about, this is what all comic book movies in the future should strive to be. From the moment my fanboy ass was seated for a 12 noon showing I was slammed against the seat for an incredible ride through a believable Gotham City which was thrown into chaos from the first 6 minutes of the film. I promise not to give anything away… I am sure almost 99% of everyone reading this has seen the film already and if not.. they’ve at least read that the film has surpassed all films in weekend box office receipts with a total (so far) of $155 Million in 3 days and is heading out to grab their tickets immediately…. In case you don’t get to see The Dark Knight

Well, I’m sure a lot of people know that it’s pretty hard to get tickets to the fastest selling movie in one day, ever: The Dark Knight. It recently surpassed even Spider Man 3 for the best selling movie on openning day (and almost certainly will beat it for best openning weekend ever). But, just in case you don’t get to see The Dark Knight, there’s an equally compelling and entertaining movie out there to see: Hellboy 2: The Golden Army. You should definitely go give this movie a look see… Keep reading > >

Hey, nerdpundits! I’m sorry for the brief hiatus, but I recently reduced my blogging on the site in order to take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). Now that the test is over – and I think I did fairly well – I’m back to add my two cents to what’s going on in technology, entertainment, and politics.
Let’s get to work…
Cell Phone Etiquette

Why is it that I can’t go on a subway ride without hearing someone’s entire life story? A couple of weeks ago, I was on the bus and a woman was screaming at her boyfriend/ex-husband/whatever about paying child support and about how she can’t stand taking care of her kid the five days a week she has him/her. Do people have no shame?
OK, so I understand that cell phones are a great tool in modern society. People have to talk to co-workers, family, friends, etc. But where do you draw the line? Where is an appropriate place to talk? What is appropriate conversation in the public arena?
Personally, I have problems holding conversations while in public; the person I am speaking to cannot hear me because I am talking too quietly. I do so for two reasons:
- To keep my personal life private
- To be courteous to others around me
On top of that, even when I am in a private place, such as a house or my office, I still prefer privacy and try to seclude myself as much as possible to hold a conversation. Keep reading > >
Microsoft’s Gaming Baby Gets a New Soul, Same Body

Microsoft announced many an upgrade to their beloved XBox 360 yesterday at E3. It turns out that The 360 is getting a shiny new dashboard, complete with a gamercard to show off your sick stats in a flashy way, an avatar to express a customizable (with clothing…), digital version of yourself (Mii?!), and a completely different graphical user interface. Yay? I’m looking forward to the upgrade, but I did kind of like the version in place now. Oh well. Hey XBox, just keep allowing me to play Ninja Gaiden 2, and we’re good. The upgrade’s free (required) and will be available in the Fall season of this year. It’s hard not to accuse Microsoft of borrowing from any number of their rivals, but enough technology is borrowed and stolen in the video game industry that it’s only fair to share sometimes. However, these rivals should fear the possibility of Microsoft doing it better…
